CHCNAV Partner Announces Successful Marine Drone Demonstration Day
In November 2021, CHCNAV's Hungarian partner successfully conducted a one-day live demonstration of the Apache 3 USV solution for nine organizations related to the GNSS and USV industries. The demonstration took place at Lake Velence in Gárdony, showcasing CHCNAV's latest marine drone technology and increasing its popularity among relevant organizations in Europe.

Technology for better bathymetric survey
The APACHE3 is a portable shallow-draft USV with a single-beam echo sounder, featuring a GNSS positioning and heading receiver and IMU sensor for bathymetric surveys of lakes, inland rivers and coastal areas. The main control unit provides seamless 4G communication, removing the limitations of traditional network bridge base stations and transmission distances. APACHE3 weight is only 7 kg for a length of less than 1 meter and a draft of 13 cm. Delivered as standard with two sets of batteries, to provide uninterrupted operation throughout the bathymetric survey, it greatly facilitates the mapping of the underwater terrain.

Demonstration at Lake Velence
During the test, the Apache 3's manual and automatic operating modes were demonstrated to introduce the Auto Planner and Hydro Survey measurement software. All that is required to support navigation with the Apache3 is a shore-based station, as the Apache3 comes with its own built-in positioning and navigation system. A route was pre-planned in the software; the Apache3 then automatically took measurements along the plotted lines. The 4G feature, which removes communication distance limitations where a mobile network is available, was also introduced to the participants.
The varying river bottom depths and reef-lined banks presented a challenge for transporting the equipment and planning the survey route. However, the Apache3 is compact, simple to set up, to easily perform bathymetric surveys with an echo sounder.
"I congratulate CHCNAV's Hungarian partner on this successful demonstration," said one of the participants. "The Apache3 USV turns the traditional mode of operation into a fully autonomous, remote-controlled navigation operation. The compact marine drone can easily operate in hard-to-reach waters, and it increases work efficiency, reduces labor intensity and improves deliverables quality."
